Twenty-three year old New Zealand fashion design star Jaeha Alex Kim is a name to watch…
In May this year he returned from Barcelona where he presented a collection as one of ten finalists selected by Spanish fashion giant MANGO to compete in the second edition of the El Boton-MANGO Fashion Awards, one of the biggest initiatives supporting new international fashion talent.
He didn’t nab the first place $300,000 prize however he still struck it big with the Jaeha collection to be sold in Mango’s 2000 plus stores internationally. This is a huge deal for the Kiwi designer as there are 1250 Mango stores in Spain alone, with around 10-20 being rolled out around the world every month.
We’re familiar with Jaeha’s beautiful designs but did you know he’s great at growing Bonsai trees?
We spent one minute with the man himself to find out how much we can reveal about his life away from patterns, pins and fabric rolls…

In a previous life I was a greek lady with a fire-red curly bushy hair
People often mistake me for a straight man
My secret talent is that I am good at growing Bonsai
I’m most proud of my life and having amazing friends around me
You’ll never catch me wearing a pair of crocs with my mum’s blue moisturizing socks
I’m obsessed with free cosmetic samples
When no-one’s watching I wonder why they are not watching
I go weak at the knees for skincare products, beautiful fashion books and Anaconda leather
My greatest fashion disaster was wearing trackpants with socks + jandals with oversized dads sweater back in uni
Don’t disturb me when I’m eating
